I hope you've read (or will read) the rest of the Asian series. "Noble House" rates as #2 best for me. "Tai-pan" wasn't so good, but makes a very important foundation for the next two, "King Rat" (excellent! Set in Changi Prison camp in S'pore) and "Noble House" which builds on 'Tai-Pan,' includes some characters from 'King Rat,' and will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering about the outcome!
