I don't get the "formatting" message every time I open a book - only if I open a new book. If I open a book and then open another, then return to the previous book, no formatting message. Also, the page flips are quick, the touch screen is responsive once you figure out how to push it right (i admit i had issues when i first used it to log in, but i quickly figured out an easy way to touch it right every time), and the only really long wait was when it boots up - since it's always on, that's obviously not an issue.
Overall I love my Nook. I admit I have not played with other ereaders to compare, but I see nothing negative in the Nook to make me want to return it.
