No, we're not losing money directly, but even at the typical price of indie books ($0.99 to $1.99) it doesn't really reimburse the author monetarily for all the time and effort put into writing a book. The free and low-price books are more of an investment in attracting and developing a readership.

The wonderful thing about indie readers is that they do keep such large libraries and TBR lists, and that provides opportunities for a large number of authors. But don't feel bad about not paying up front; even if your TBR list is long, I'm happy to have my download numbers go up, and for the possibility of readers and reviews in the future.
