I think people who assume the books are free are people who don't read very often. Most people read a couple of books a year, and even if the books were free they would never recoup their $259 investment. They don't understand that for people who read much more often, the convenience makes it worth it, and that saving a few bucks a book (when you read 100 instead of 2 a year) can eventually pay for the device as well.
