Jim reset the activations, I reauthorised the computer using the same adobe ID, got it to recognise the ereader (I had to use the CTRL-SHIFT-E key combination) and then had an error message saying there was a problem installingn the reader software. I also couldn't open some of the purchased ebooks. My heart sank. But I pressed on, deleted the titles I couldn't open and reimported them having previously downloaded them again into ADE.

All of which I had already tried before without success either in ADE or Reader but somehow it worked this time. As I say, I don't know what she did to make it go wrong - maybe she did inadvertently set up another Adobe ID through installing the ereader before she authorised the computer- but it works now and it seems to be down to what Jim did when he reset the activations. I don't know what the reader "software error" was but it seems to work fine though it was slow to import big files.

Edit
I didn't see before I posted this that Jim had already said the same thing and it looks like it was the second Adobe ID that was the problem. My darling daughter is highly intelligent but she hasn't got the sense she was born with when it comes to reading instructions. Sigh!
