You can view your notes and highlights for a particular book by opening the book and going to Notes and Highlights, but there’s no way I can see to export those notes and highlights. History is the ability to back/forward screen pages based on what you've already viewed. So for example, if you have an endnote and you use the link to go to the endnote and the endnote had no go back link, you use history back to go back to where you were. Not all eBooks that have endnotes have a link to go back. So history is rather important to have.
