We've booked space each way on the ferry to Vancouver Island for a trip to visit my sister for Christmas. The only booking time available on the voyage over was departing at 6:30 AM . We got a more reasonable 10:30 return voyage booked coming home.

We hate traveling over the holidays or on weekends, but sometimes you just have to do it.
