When our pit bull was still alive and healthy, Norton was the alpha dog of the pair. I use to worry that one day Cain-dog would get tired of Norton's ways and explain to him what a pit bull was all about, but he never did. (Cain-dog took a lot of crap off Norton, just as he took crap off kids he would never have tolerated from an adult.)
