The Brass verdict is a (loose) follow on from the Lincoln Lawyer and if you read that first the Brass Verdict will make more sense and is most definitely worth a read.
I would second Cassidym's recommendation of Robert Crais and all Connelly's other novels particularly the Harry Bosch series.
