Could you re-check, if ".noscan" file is present on SD card (in the root folder)? If it is, delete it. If not, and you still cannot open books directly, that's a bug. The only way to disable file scanning at the moment is having the mentioned file in card's root directory.

It's most likely that that's doable but a bit complicated, since the original code treats media content as something that could change only when you connect to USB / disconnect, or remove/insert external card. Even the "delete" option from Sony/Kinoma doesn't do it 100% correctly, still leaving reference to the deleted book here and there.
