Thank you for this. That ends *any* interest I might've had in getting a Nook. The only reason I switched from a PDA was battery life; I got tired of losing access mid-book.

If you can't turn off the battery-draining LCD screen, the Nook loses one of the substantial advantages of e-ink readers.
