Well, the most common reason to buy a hardback book among people I know is that it is available before the paperback. And a lot of people buying that hardback is annoyed because a hardback book takes to much space and would pay the same amount for a paperback book if it was avavilable. And for the people that just like to read the book as fast as possible ebooks do reduce hardback sales.
