The exact same backup that goes to my NAS box also goes to Carbonite. I see no sense -- for me, that is -- to do an image of my drives so that both programs and data are backed up. I do back up program preference files, however. I don't have hundreds of GBs to backup; more like 10s of GBs. And my Internet connection is fiber optic.

Besides, it is only the initial backup to Carbonite that takes time. On a daily basis I don't change GBs of data.
