With ADE in Windows, it sounds like the profile is corrupt. When you uninstall ADE there will still be some residual files left. I suggest you uninstall ADE, then delete the ADE folder in c:\program files\XXX (I don't know the name of the folder it installs to) and any ADE folder you see in c:\documents and settings\YOURUSERNAME then reinstall. I wish I didnt use Windows at all as well. I wiped the laptop and reloaded Windows XP reinstalled ADE and got exactly the same result with the error message.Very frustrating. I can only think that it is at the Adobe end of the business or something is corrupted in the PP.
On the Linux setup I tried what you suggested and mounted the drives then started ADE but no joy. I can take a file from outside the ADE screen and drag it to the Library successfully but not the other way and the PP does not show on the ADE page, I am using the latest Debian based version of Puppy Linux. May I ask what distribution you are using?
