I had a Kindle 2 - wound up giving it to my son, who loves it. I tried a 700 but the clarity was an issue, so I returned it for a 505. I preferred the 505 to the Kindle 2.

But the funny thing was, I didn't read on the 505 much, except on airplanes, in part because it was a little too large to carry around - until recently when it developed that Instapaper added an epub converter to its site. Now, I tend to use the 505 to read articles I've gleaned from the internet, and that reading gets done when I'm laid back in my Lazy-Boy. I also read short stories or other short material on the 505.

Then the 300 came out. Turns out that it is perfect for lunch time reading - got a Tuff-Luv case which has a built in strut allowing the 300 to sit on a table at the perfect angle for me to read while eating. And if I get a seat on the subway, it's a good size to read on. But all I read on the 300 is novels.

Bottom line - I've found that my enjoyment of my readers is in some fashion related to specific situations and particular reading materials.
