What you are describing is really the direction Amazon and B&N are going (Amazon is already there for PC users). With the Kindle software installed on your Kindle, iPod Touch/iPhone, and PC, you really do have access to your book (and your place in your book) from everywhere. And the Nook promises the same. Perhaps Sony will join the party.
