I'd have to agree that alot about the Nook feels quite beta and rushed out.

Guess I'm OK with that personally as I consider that to be part of the cost of being on the bleeding edge, especially when jumping on a brand new platform.

Still, I was impressed at how easy it was to load and open (successfully) ePubs from a completely different book store than BN's own (ePub versions of books that I had previously bought from Sony's store in their proprietary .lrx format) and I think the Nook hardware is really slick and the platform holds great promise. Time will tell if firmware updates fix all our issues, I certainly hope it does and soon.

The crash was annoying but since I hadn't loaded much into my Nook up to that point, recovering was trivial. Will keep an eye out for any more crashes. Used it for a good 3 hours of reading and some browsing around their store for 30 minutes, no problems. The color screen interface could be snappier, but it isn't too bad, IMHO not as bad as many have made it sound. I was able to get fully engrossed in my book and read w/o distraction just using the hardware buttons (where you'll be spending most of your time as a user).

It doesn't feel any slower than the PRS-500 or my friend's first generation Kindle. Then again, I'm coming from a rather old Sony PRS-500 so my expectations may be lower than those who have used some of the newer devices (newer Sony models and the Kindle 2).

I'll hang in there for now. We'll see how the firmware updates change things.
