I recall that my trusty old Sony PRS-500 went through a couple of software updates initially before become more reliable (it used to freeze up with certain documents, actually still does from time to time), and while PDF rendering got a LITTLE better, it never worked well enough to rely on (unless you formatted PDF's especially for the Sony's screen dimension).
We'll see how this current factory firmware update fares in terms of PDF reflow capabilities. Kudos for Sony for standing by what is essentially a "End of Life'd" product and doing this one last firmware upgrade for free.
I'm sure it also took a couple of software/firmware updates to get the Kindle running reliably too.
BN is not the only company that shipped something with less than 100% perfect software...
