Because USA Today (indeed, all of Ganett Publishing) is in financial melt down.
Likely this was current at the time of one of the large rounds of layoffs, and the new people in charge of the website don't have a handle on what they are doing yet.
Ganett Blog chronicled the decline of the publishing house and the inexorable toll of the layoffs for the remaining employees for a long time, but ceased updating at the end of this summer.
