I had a similar problem with my Kindle 2 while reading "The Stand". It would cause my Kindle to become unresponsive until I restarted. Shortly after calling Kindle support and running through their list of fixes the only thing we could do was to delete the file from my Kindle. They then pulled "The Stand" from sale in the Kindle store for a while until they could get the publisher to fix the problem. At which time I was able to download it again, and since then I have had no trouble with it. Perhaps the version from the Sony store has a similar issue?
