Reading "Away" by Amy Bloom - about an American immigrant, a young jewish woman, a survivor of the 1920s Russsian pogroms, and her journey across America in search of her lost daughter.
It did sound slightly more uplifting in the description. She's still in NY and so far it's been rather bleak (I'm a little over 25% in). I'm still interested enough in the character to want to find out what will happen, but I don't know if I care enough to finish. It's written in present tense, which does place the reader more 'in' the scene, but it's a bit tiring, too.
