Unfortunately OO cannot pre-process properly many types of MS Word docs, for this reason BD uses Word libraries.

But you can try to use the inner BD pre-processor as follows.
1. Open your input file in OO and convert it to html.
2. BD -> Settings:
re-format completely: checked;
keep pictures: checked;
keep styles: checked.
3. Load html to BD.

Because the inner BD pre-processor is not so powerful as the Word's one, some formatting errors may appear. To check and fix them do as follows after the file loading:
1. Tools -> Html Fragment Editor
2. fragment: check "whole code"
3. if there are formatting errors (they will be reported at the status bar) - fix them manually and press "apply".
