I guess that's not a terrible thing!

I use the avatar because it's the theme on my website. I designed it for the header of my website/blog eons ago. Then when I needed an avatar, it just seemed like the way to go. I always thought after I published a book, I'd use one of my covers. But I'm attached to the bear now and so it stays. I put that same bear on each side on the last quilt that I made.

(For those unfamiliar with the design--it's actually an American Indian medicine bear design. It's always been a favorite--both the myth behind the bear and the symbol/protection/hope that it stands for.)
