I don't think it'll be cheaper actually. I was looking and this link suggests they'll cost about 150,000 - 260,000 Yen a piece (~$1300-$2200 US)

I think the real competition in Japan will be for ease of use. They seem to have a high standard for functionality and not having to tinker with electronics.
