Chaotic? You don't say! I think that was why I got stuck in several Dickens novels


I'm thinking you might want to read "The World According to Garp," [if you haven't already done so], since it's the novel that really helped to define a generation and the novel that brought him both critical and popular recognition.

Although his current novel is certainly a fine novel so far (and I'm also still reading it), it doesn't compare - for me - to the way "Garp" shattered my conceptions of characterizations and story-telling, and made me forever a fan of his writing.

The fact, when all is said and done, is that I realy like his writing. Perhaps, for you, he's just one of those authors that doesn't speak to you personally - which is OK, of course. And maybe that's it for me, in that I feel some kind of relationship to his writing.
