When the Boston Red Sox finally broke "the Curse of the Bambino", beat the Yankees in the playoffs, and won the World Series, I was amused. I'm a Yankee fan, but the Sox were the better team, and anything that could cause tens of thousands of fans to simultaneously excrete rectangular building blocks (if for different reasons) had something to recommend it.

If Team USA wins the World Cup, it will be an event surpassing the Sox winning the World Series, and the world as many soccer fans know it will have come to an end...
