Dave as i read your thred i new i would find some answers because it is exactly what i am going threw here is what i did after reading all the posts here and it seems to allow things to run much smoother.
1. first i removed the Sony software, now every time i plug in the reader it trys to install the software i just close it(I would however like to know how to stop this).
2. Now because the calabre still did not recognize my reader unless the sony software was ruing i reinstalled it and selected PRS-500 insted of touch even tho i am running the PRS-600.
poof worked great I hope this helps if anyone knows how to stop Sony from trying to install that would be great.
