I don't know if it's just distance, but Mainland Europe always seems much more romantic when it snows. I was at a Christmas Market in Germany some years ago when it was snowing and it all felt so much
more Christmasy and magical. The sights, the smells, the sounds; if you ignored the modern world at the edge of the market it might have been a hundred years earlier. And then a choir began signing "O Tannenbaum" and that was it - I grinned for a good solid hour afterwards
