We told him yes, it was, and he rushed to tell his friends. Then they rapidly discovered the possibility of snowballs, and burying each other in it.

My partner recalls being on the student bus at the University of East Angilia once, when it started snowing. One overseas student turned to his neighbour and asked, "Is that snow?"
The reply was, "I don't know; I'm from Nigeria."
in paris a lot of people get excited about snow (i'm at the top of the list) because it's fairly rare here. about 10 or 12 years ago we had a really cold winter and it snowed quite a lot. i remember spending the whole day walking around outside. i bought some roasted chestnuts from a street-vendor who looked like he was seeing snow for the first time and we smiled at each other like little kids. later on i saw a black man walking along with a plastic disposable camera : he was pointing it up in the air and taking photos of the falling snow, and smiling to himself. that whole day it seemed like everybody was happy and excited, everyone seemed ready to giggle whenever you caught their eye.

i hope it snows this winter for you !
