In the 1970's we used to have a lot of foreign students living nearby. Every winter some of them would see snow for the first time, and it was enchanting to see them.
One morning we had a young Iraqi technology student knocking on our door, after a heavy snowfall overnight, asking incredulously, "Is that ... snow?"
We told him yes, it was, and he rushed to tell his friends. Then they rapidly discovered the possibility of snowballs, and burying each other in it.

My partner recalls being on the student bus at the University of East Angilia once, when it started snowing. One overseas student turned to his neighbour and asked, "Is that snow?"
The reply was, "I don't know; I'm from Nigeria."
