I don't really think that ePub is much of a concern outside of communities of enthusiasts like this. Personally I think it would be nice if there was a universal file type that all publishers, retailers and ereader manufacturers could agree on. However, I recently discovered that my mother had purchased a K2 this summer, and if were start talking about ePub to her she wouldn't know what I was talking about and probably wouldn't care much. As long as she can keep getting the books she wants from Amazon at a reasonable price I don't think that it will ever really cross her radar screen.
