I would consider a subscription service, just as I considered a subscription service for my cell phone. It depends on what is offered and the terms. With my cell phone I had a choice of buying an unlocked phone and then simply doing a month-to-month contract with a cell phone service or getting a subsidized phone and locking myself in for 1 to 2 years. I decided that the economics were such that being a subscriber was better. Without knowing what the deal would be for a reader, I don't see how anyone can predecide it is or isn't the way to go.
