do you mean food from the middle ages? my kids and I had a total renaissance feast once... we put a canvas drop cloth on the dining room floor, moved anything that was really delicate out of the dining room, and put more canvas on the table over the table protectors. everyone only had a sheath type knife to eat with, I found a bunch of miss matched stoneware goblets, and we had ribs and cornish game hens with bread. the guests were encouraged to drop their rib bones on the floor (not the hens, I did get all modern on their asses over that), beat their goblets on the table, wipe their hands on their clothes or the dogs, or each other. throwing of food was tolerated. there was a wrestling match for seating positions "above the salt". it was fun!
