What kind of negativity is that? Seriously! Of course you can own a PRS-500 anywhere you dam well want to! Sony feel better about selling them to people in countries where they sell books, that's all.
If you're having problems with using your PRS-500, maybe you should talk to Sony and have them sort out your problem. If it's just to do with buying books from the store, that's different. But you should be able to use it anywhere..
