You're missing something. The majority of writers would contract their ebooks to their major publisher, the one in their country. Certainly US-written books would dominate from US sellers, but UK sellers would be the ones selling UK-written books.

The people shafted would be the portals like Amazon, who have additional costs over and above the publishers.
