The bottom line is, I will in all likelihood replace my readers within the next year, and it may not be with an Amazon device. I'd like to keep the titles I purchased, which is not so much to ask, IMO.

Of course, I feel the same way. I don't want to read the books on my iphone, but on my reader, including future readers. But I am still surprised that Amazon sees it that way. This does tell us, that they really listen to their customers.
