Actually, this makes some sense.

Apple has innovative design and innovative UI. But it also employs new technology at times, to better differentiate its products -- look at how it "cornered" the market for the iPod high capacity drives.

I would have been a little surprised (and disappointed,) if the iPad used the same (or marginally better) screen technology, as the myriad cheap netbooks.

But if Apple can use OLED, particularly in a subsidized product, retailing at under $1000 with contract, then its tablet will be truly unique, and it will most likely sell well.

OLED would, among other things, also help solve the battery issue, which has reportedly been one of Jobs' main reasons for not such tablet see the light of day.
