One can try the following procedure on PRS-600:

1. Open the free hand drawing and draw an area completely black.
2. Erase this black area.
3. Take a close look, the erased area actually looks 'whiter' than the white background around this area.

So the idea is, the hardware can in principle make the white color whiter, thus enhance the overall contras. It might be that the firmware needs better tuning.
