I disagree... the male form of a pronoun is pretty common usage when the gender is unknown or when referring to a group of people.
Still, in any case I don't think you should feel that you were insulted.
There are also names that are used for different genders in some countries. Personally I always think of "Kelly" and "Pat" as girls names. But, of course they are common boys names too. But, if I refer to a Kelly I don't know as she and it is a male, a simple correction is all I need.
So, please give DG the benefit of the doubt with a simple... BTW: for future reference I am a she not an he. It is much more polite and less confrontational than the language you used.
After all, we just want to keep everything polite as much as possible.
