As far as I can tell from a few posts here, the July 1 "new firmware" was version 1.4, Mobi DRM with folder view, and it has been sold with new Gen3's after that -- I know this because I have had it since the end of July when my Gen3 arrived.
Sadly, Bookeen will not put a flash file for even the 1.4 firmware I have on their web site.
There is an Adobe DRM firmware sold only on Gen3's from Weltbild.de as version 1.9 that also has folder view. With allowances for language obstacles, I interpret Bookeen's reply to my request for this firmware as "we did this as a requirement by Weltbild and they own it."
