Being a somewhat new visitor to the Mobileread forums (though I've been reading ebooks on my Palm -> Treo -> Centro -> Netbook for years) what surprises me most is the flaming of ebook hardware, and thinly veiled attacks on the intelligence of someone who chooses product X over Y. It reminds me too much of the Mac/Linux/Windows wars.
I almost bought a Sony. I almost bought a Kindle. I almost bought an Irex. I have decided to buy a Nook. Am I "right"? Who knows. Who cares? For _ME_ I believe it to be the best choice. And by choice, I mean that it is the best compromise. None of the current eReaders are my dream machine.
So you have a Kindle, an Irex, or a Sony -- all of which I decided against. I'll betcha that 1) You aren't me. 2) Your needs and preferences differ. 3) Neither you nor I are any smarter or dumber as a result.
It would seem that a community like MobileRead would be more about what we all have in common (love of books, love of technology, love of innovation) than yet another place to wage platform wars.
Sorry for the rant, but the last few threads I've read yanked my strings.
Later... and please enjoy your Kindle, Sony, Nook, iRex, Palm, Simbian, iPhone, Netbook, Droid, Blackberry, Nokia, Pre, or paperback.
