I have a Sony PRS-505 and a Sony PRS-600 and I have to say that I don't think I could do without either of them. The Sony PRS-300 is at a decent price, but I'm sure you could find a 505 for maybe $50 more and it would be able to view pictures and play music. What I love most about my reader....hmmmm....not sure there are enough words, lol! The screen (on both devices, although people argue that the 505/300's screen is much nicer than the 600) is very crisp and clear, and is very natural to read. I didn't know anything about them 9 months ago and now if you tried to take mine away I'd beat you up, lol! There's no eyestrain, so if you read for long periods of time it won't be a problem. If you have a Borders/Best Buy/Sony store anywhere close to you I'd say go check out the demo models.
It sux b/c if you want to check out Amazon's Kindle there aren't any places to go to try it out and see if that's what you might want.
It depends largely on what you're reading; I bought my Sony and I haven't looked back!

By the way, welcome to the forums!!!
