THANK YOU igorsk and mobileread for letting me know about this update! I am totally going to do it. I've been somewhat unhappy with my 500 lately, and been toying with the idea of getting something else but not wanting to spend the money. Maybe this update will fix some of the problems.
As far as why they are doing this -- this may keep me from switching to a Kindle, which certainly would not help Sony at all!
