Sure it is. You just need to be willing to strip the drm and convert the files. I bought a Kindle as much to have access to Amazon as to use it in its own right, but I still do most of my reading on my Sony 505.
Same with at least one Ereader book - Half Broke Horses -- because B&N had the best price.
