In CoolReader, I do not recall an option to turn off the status bar? There is a option to display the status bar either at the top or bottom of the display.
In Mobile ADE there is no status bar anyway, and probably never will be unless Adobe decides to make one available? So, you get no status bar with the ADE formats EPUB and PDF, but there is a status bar for CoolReader formats like FB2, TXT, and RTF.

The time display is optional already in the Lbook CoolReader and it just shows beside the page count if the option is enabled. So there really is no change in screen real estate when the clock display is enabled.
