tho i'd still argue that tapping/dragging your finger on the text is pretty unique UI for highlighting

Highlighting (underlining) on the Kindle is easy. Move the cursor to the place where you want the highlight to begin and click the cursor. Then move it to the place where you want the highlighting to end and click a second time.
And, yes, you can make a note on what you have just underlined. Simply go to the word at which you wish the note to appear and begin typing. The note window will appear. To save your note, click on "Save Note." To read or edit your note, move your cursor to the superscript number that has appeared at the end of the word at which you first made the note a click the cursor.
