Some time ago Onyx had promised me a second unit that had a number of cosmetic improvements. Basically they had worked the bugs out. Well, I got it today and the touchscreen doesn't work.

So it's going back. I thought I'd take a few minutes and compare the 2 units.
The hardware is for the most part identical. The only difference is that the metal back of the pre production unit was unfinished, and it picked up dirt.
The only real difference is the cover. The cover that came with the pre production unit was a gray sleeve. The front and back were reinforced with cardboard, so it was very sturdy. I liked it becuase it had this one neat feature. It has a little strap that fastens over the end of the sleeve. When you pull on the strap, the unit slides out of the sleeve.
The second unit came with a beautiful white leather book like cover similar to the Cybook Gen 3, only much better quality. This cover is well stitched and has a velcro clasp. Even though it's white, it's gorgeous.
I prefer the sleeve cover design. I'm supposed to send the review unit back, but since the new one has a nonfunctional touchscreen I'll ship them both. But I'm going to see if they'll let me keep the sleeve cover. I'm pretty sure that if Onyx doesn't send me another unit, I will buy one. I really like the Boox.
