Yes, you're right. However in the story the witch is depressed by the Christmas season. The gift she gets leads to the battle with her brother and it leads to her falling in love with a non-magical man.

True, it's not Christian, but giving gifts at the Winter Solstice is a tradition going back to the ancient Greco-Roman civilization. And still, there was no direct mention of Hecate.

And besides, it's a fun film.
