The Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth - mainly because it handles Tauber's diary better. For me, at least, that came over as a long, killer chunk of unrelated side plot (until I'd finished the book, of course . . .)

I totally agree about screenplays sucking when subsequently made into novels. I will never forget how bad the book version of Fatal Attraction was.
