The way I understand it, the Desktop Reader or Creator (both Windows only) can be used to convert MS Office, PDF, HTML or text files to the Mobipocket (.prc) format and it is the .prc file that is actually exported to the handheld device. This works well for HTML, with the only major downside the lack of Linux or MacOS support.
